Coronavirus: 4th straight day of more than 150 new cases

The Shelby County Department of Health reported 155 new coronavirus cases Sunday, April 11, marking the fourth straight day of more than 150 cases. The department reported no additional coronavirus-related deaths. 

The 155 new cases come from 2,453 tests, yielding a positivity rate of 6.3%.


Experts sharpen tools as COVID variants become biggest threat


Today’s case count brings the total number of confirmed and probable cases in Shelby County to 92,529. The total number of coronavirus-related deaths stands at 1,585. Active cases in Shelby County stand at 1,246 and 89,698 cases have been labeled as inactive/recovered. 

Overall, there have been more than 1.1 million tests administered in the county, with a 9% positivity rate. 

A total of 266,298 people in Shelby County have been vaccinated, including 116,304 who have been partially vaccinated and 149,994 who have been fully vaccinated. 

Regional hospital data 

There were 135 COVID-19 patients in Memphis-area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, the latest data available, according to Tennessee’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System.

Hospital capacity was at 90% use for ICU beds, and 93% for acute care beds. The number of area ICU beds available was 39 with 168 acute care beds open.

Patients who are COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus represent about 15% of ICU patients and 5% of acute care patients.

Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.

Of the 135 COVID patients, 48 are in ICU beds, and 87 are in acute care beds.
