Coronavirus: New cases dip to under 70

The number of new coronavirus cases reported in Shelby County on Tuesday, April 20, is the lowest it has been in nearly two weeks.

The Shelby County Health Department reported 65 new cases today, the lowest number since the agency reported 59 new cases on April 7. The 65 cases came from 1,038 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 6.3%.

For comparison, Monday’s 152 new cases came from 1,967 tests, yielding a 7.7% positivity rate.

Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 93,960 cases, including 90,627 inactive cases, 1,734 active cases and 1,599 deaths.

The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

As of Monday, the Tennessee’s reported coronavirus total was 835,842 cases, including 12,081 deaths, 844 current hospitalizations and 809,773 are inactive cases.
