The lawsuit filed by Alicia Franklin alleges negligence by the city regarding her alleged September 2021 sexual assault by Cleotha Henderson, aka Abston.

The most controversial ordinance barring police from low-level traffic stops was delayed Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Strickland administration opposed and questioned some of the measures in a four-page memo.

With the lease between Memphis in May and Memphis River Parks Partnership a done deal, Memphis City Council members signed off Tuesday, March 7, on a damage deposit agreement for the festival’s use of Tom Lee Park.

The Shelby County Election Commission released a legal opinion Feb. 28 that said Memphis’ five-year residency requirement for mayoral candidates should be enforced in the upcoming Memphis municipal election.

In an update Tuesday, MLGW’s VP of customer service said MLGW has resolved about half of the initial billing backlog created by faulty utility meters. 

City Chief Legal Officer Jennifer Sink says disciplinary hearings for the last four officers cited for violating police policy should conclude Wednesday, Feb. 22. and video may be released to the public along with other officers’ records.

Ladarius Marion, 21, is charged with second-degree murder, five counts of attempted second-degree murder, and five counts of employment of a weapon during a dangerous felony.

While there are real savings if MLGW buys power outside of TVA, according to EnerVision, it’s not a figure that will transform MLGW or the City of Memphis’ budget, but ratepayers would feel its impact.
