Beale Street shooting victim was arrested Downtown a week prior
A suspect arrested during a Memphis Police Department operation Downtown Sunday, July 14, was fatally shot on Beale Street Saturday, July 20.
MPD identified Benjamin Murrell, 44, as the victim who was shot around 11 p.m. Saturday at Beale and South 4th streets, the same location where police initiated his arrest during the department’s Operation Saturday Night Live less than a week before.
Murrell was transported to the hospital and died from his injuries, the police department confirmed Sunday, July 21.
Court records also show Murrell had a long history of criminal activity.
