The man accused in a summer 2023 shooting at Margolin Hebrew Academy has been indicted in the case.

More than seven years after Cordero Ragland was charged with drag racing after ramming his Dodge Charger into an SUV, he will be back in court Tuesday, May 7.

Four inmates at the Shelby County Jail were noncritically injured just before 10 p.m. Friday night after objects were set on fire and thrown in a housing unit.

Shelby County Criminal Court Division 8 Judge Chris Craft sentenced Livingston to life in prison after the verdict was read Friday, May 3.

Jurors and family members watched intently as the state and the defense presented closing arguments on day five of the trial for Gregory Livingston.

“Right now, we have a sense of urgency about what our equipment looks like in the Memphis Police Department, and how we can make sure that our officers are not outgunned as well,” Interim MPD Chief Davis said.

Shelby County Juvenile Court is looking at several temporary spaces following an indefinite closure, Shelby County Juvenile Court Judge Tarik Sugarmon told The Daily Memphian Wednesday.

“Everybody is constantly focused on Memphis, Memphis, Memphis,” Tuggle said. “I will say something that’s probably going to shock you. The most violent criminals trying to get into our county are not coming from Memphis.”

Nashville District Attorney General Glenn Funk, who is prosecuting the case, painted a picture during opening statements of an altercation that turned violent quickly and a killing that was premeditated and intentional. Defense attorney Steve Farese said his client was “innocent of all charges.”

U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Tennessee Thomas L. Parker sentenced Roosevelt Wilson, 43, for possessing the devices and receiving them from overseas.

Staff members are conducting all proceedings and administrative work virtually.

Nashville District Attorney General Glenn Funk is in Memphis for the week to prosecute the case. Defense attorneys Steve Farese and Leslie Ballin are representing Gregory Livingston.

The filing is another front in the deepening legal conflict over the disputed second lieutenant position.

Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies fatally shot James Q. Hampton while attempting to serve a search warrant at 3119 Barron Ave. near Orange Mound on April 26, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

MPD said it responded to a shooting around 3:30 a.m. Saturday on Beale Street. 

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has identified the man who was fatally shot by Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies Friday, April 26, as James Q. Hampton, 30.

Local education officials, from both private and public schools, continue to express skepticism about the “armed teachers” law. 

Joel Bowman, 33, now has a combined $200,000 bail for two separate cases: the shooting and an aggravated burglary that occurred the same day. Each case has a $100,000 bail set.

Under the bill, juvenile court can keep the minor under its jurisdiction until the teen’s 19th birthday, after which the court is authorized to impose an additional sentence to be served on or before their 24th birthday if they violate conditions.
