A fourth man, Jamil Ibrahim, remains charged.

Wesley Caldwell, 23, was indicted June 1 on charges of criminal attempt of second degree murder and aggravated assault. He was previously charged with aggravated assault. 

Shelby County District Attorney General Steve Mulroy said during a press conference June 6 that his office has filed a notice of intent to seek a transfer for the teen charged with killing John Materna.

“Even though the kids are being allegedly accused of things, the community should realize that they’re still kids and what we want to offer them is some type of stability and sense of safety.”

The man is charged with aggravated robbery, carjacking, two counts of aggravated assault on a first responder, employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and evading arrest in auto. 

“I do keep telling myself that, 100 years from now, this will be another great Calvary story in the lore.”

Memphis Police officers were responding to a call about a carjacking of a Chevrolet Trailblazer in the 700 block of Eastern Drive. 

Those who died this weekend were a man at a Downtown Exxon gas station and a man in North Memphis. Two children, a 2-year-old and a 15-year-old, were among those wounded.

Cameras installed across Memphis and Shelby County can identify and alert law enforcement to vehicles connected to crimes, like missing person cases. Critics say the cameras, which are tied into a national network of surveillance, threaten the privacy of citizens.

Chase Harris, 19, has racked up charges for events dating back to December, and he also has a juvenile delinquent history that includes three alleged acts involving deadly weapons.

The indictment was obtained Tuesday, according to court records. Harris is indicted on charges of theft of property $10,000-$60,000 and theft of property $2,500-$10,000.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to The Daily Memphian deputies conducted a wellness check on Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant on Wednesday after social media posts raised concern.

”We don’t have the capacity to pick up children and take them where they need to go,” Davis said, after announcing that the Greenlaw Community Center won’t be used to hold curfew breakers.
