Of the roughly 3,000 Americans who have been exonerated since the late 1980s, only 30 have been from Tennessee, Jessica Van Dyke said at the meeting.

The conception of the council was inspired by an increase in gun-related crimes that is likely due to the relaxing of gun laws in Tennessee, such as 2014 legislation that allows people to keep guns in cars without permits. 

Eduard Rodriguez Tabora, the third suspect to be arrested and charged with murder in the death of Rev. Autura Eason-Williams, has been charged with first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony and facilitation to first-degree murder. 

Major violent crimes, like aggravated assaults, murders, rapes and robberies, are down for the first half of the year compared to the first half of 2021, according to the Memphis Shelby Crime Commission’s 2nd Quarter report released Wednesday, July 27. 

A third suspect, an adult, has been arrested and charged with murder in the carjacking and slaying of Rev. Autura Eason-Williams.

The department’s No. 1 goal, according to its assistant chief of police services, is to expedite the 911 response time.

The juvenile had two previous charges in November and December.

The suspect, who who was charged with commission of an act of terrorism, was taken for medical treatment and evaluation.

Former lawyer Bret Thompson was disbarred in 1996 for stealing client funds. He’s been repeatedly convicted since then for posing as a lawyer and stealing from “clients.” But as his list of victims grows, judges and other candidates pay him thousands of dollars as a political consultant.

The department’s Multi-Agency Gang Unit was executing a warrant attempt at a house in the 4000 block of Breckenwood Drive when a suspect shot at the officers from inside the residence. 

The officer was transported to Regional One Health in critical condition and was later upgraded to a critical but stable condition. The suspect was taken into custody.

Janeen Gordon reported that her opponent in the primary elections, Stephanie Gatewood, stole a campaign sign and later posted a photo of the sign on Facebook. 

A sheriff’s deputy responding to a shooting in Cordova was struck struck him with his car, causing the deputy to be carried away on the hood of the vehicle.
