Steven Adams has sustained a PCL sprain in his right knee. The Grizzlies will have to find a way to make up for the absence of the big man on the court.

The Grizzlies are 11-13 on the road this season. Over the past five seasons the only team to make the NBA Finals with a losing road record was the fifth-seeded 2020 Miami Heat, who got there via the chaos of the NBA’s COVID-spurred Orlando “bubble.”

Desmond Bane is the face of Richmond, Indiana. His hometown roots, and specifically his time in “Baneville,” shaped the Grizzlies guard into the person he is today. 

Taylor Jenkins said the Lakers competed harder for the full 48 minutes in a “terrible effort” by the Grizzlies that snapped an 11-game winning streak.

The Grizzlies tied the longest winning streak in franchise history by making the plays in the final seconds to edge the Cavaliers 115-114.

Last week, Grizzlies beat writer Drew Hill had the chance to spend some time in Richmond, Indiana — Bane’s hometown — and talk to some of the people he grew up closely with.

Dating back to the Pyramid days, this game and all that surrounds it is a major event for Memphis and for the Grizzlies, once a symbol of the city’s arrival as an NBA market and always a testament to its meaning.

Gary Payton, Luol Deng, Nancy Lieberman and Eddie George were recognized as this year’s National Civil Rights Museum Sports Legacy Award honorees as part of the Grizzlies Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration Game.

Ja Morant scored 29 points and Desmond Bane scored 28 in a dominant Memphis victory.
