Penny Hardaway texted Kendric Davis prior to Sunday’s game. After the win over Cincinnati, Davis and the Tigers are one step closer to the subject of that text.

Sunday’s win marks the first 18-win season for the Tigers since the 2015-16 season. Also, Memphis has 10 road wins for the first time since 1985.

When Memphis pulled out a close win over Cincinnati at FedExForum on Sunday, it marked another step toward securing what Kendric Davis has wanted all along: a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Memphis moved further to the right side of the NCAA Tournament bubble after losing to Houston on the road.

The Memphis Tigers put up a gallant fight in losing to the Houston Cougars Sunday. The good news? The Cougars should be No. 1 in the country when they come to FedExForum for the rematch on March 5. And a healthy Kendric Davis should be waiting for them.

The Memphis Tigers lost Kendric Davis to injury, lost 24 turnovers and somehow still managed to beat Central Florida Thursday night. It may not have been the most important win in Memphis history. But it was unlike any that have come before. 

Davis injured his right ankle with 4:25 left in the first half of Memphis’ 64-63 win over UCF at FedExForum on Thursday.

Without injured Kendric Davis, the Tigers’ lead evaporated. With seven seconds left, Damaria Franklin played hero. The 6-foot-3 guard created a steal and then made the fastbreak layup that proved to be the difference.
