After a New Year’s Day road loss to Tulane in which it gave up nearly 100 points, Memphis returns to FedExForum to face ECU at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Tigers coach touched on the size of his team’s rotation twice on Monday — one time suggesting that he feels his group was better when he played fewer players during a large chunk of the non-conference slate. 

The University of Memphis women’s basketball team will host its first American Athletic Conference home matchup of the 2022-23 season on Tuesday, Jan. 3, (7 p.m. ESPN+, 98.9 FM) when the Tigers play East Carolina at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

Memphis beat itself in several facets of the game and allowed Tulane to build momentum that it ultimately capitalized on late.

The Memphis Tigers got off to a horrendous start and never fully gained momentum in a 96-89 loss to the Tulane Green Wave Sunday at New Orleans’ Fogelman Arena.

Led by Jalen Cook, Tulane is a clear-cut better team than USF on paper. So, it’ll be especially important for the Tigers are alert after their scare versus the Bulls.

The 5-foot-9 South Florida guard from Cordova High School never thought he’d be on the other bench inside FedExForum.

Tyler Harris made one last trip to FedExForum Thursday. He may not have gotten the revenge he wanted — but he and the Memphis Tigers got what they needed from the night.

The Tigers ripped off a 19-5 run in the final 4:21 to pull out the 93-86 conference victory.

As Memphis gets set to soon head into AAC play, there’s a good chance we’ll see more of a few Tigers who’d previously been buried deep in the team’s rotation.

There’s a real possibility that this group of primarily transfers and unheralded recruits can lead Memphis to its most successful season since 2013.
