COGIC ‘Saints’ return to boost civic pride, hotel occupancy
In 2001, Church of God In Christ members traveled from all over the country to attend the Holy Convocation at The Pyramid in Downtown Memphis. The annual event was held in Memphis from 1907 until 2009 before moving to St. Louis. Memphis lost the convention deal amid complaints about Memphis’ lack of capacity to host such a large (30,000-plus) gathering, but this week Memphis finally snagged a three-year deal for COGIC to bring its annual Holy Convocation back home starting in 2021.
