Shelby County coronavirus cases rise by 294, deaths by 9

There are 294 more reported coronavirus cases and nine more deaths resulting from the disease, according to the Shelby County Health Department.
That brings the total to 8,688 cases and 176 deaths, according to the same data; 5,958 people are considered recovered.
Those 294 new cases come from 2,963 tests, a 9.9% positivity rate; overall, 116,242 tests have been administered in Shelby County.
This is the second highest daily coronavirus case increase in Shelby County; the highest was an increase of 385 cases on June 20.
The state updates its figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Wednesday, June 24, there were 37,235 reported coronavirus cases in Tennessee, including 24,693 of those cases considered recovered, per the Tennessee Department of Health.
According to the same data, there were 556 deaths linked to coronavirus and 2,386 Tennesseans who have ever been hospitalized due to the disease.
The number of tests administered in the state is 718,038.
As of yesterday, DeSoto County, Mississippi had 990 reported coronavirus cases and 15 deaths, according to that state’s Department of Health.
