Shelby County coronavirus cases increase by 157, deaths by 2

There are 157 more reported coronavirus cases and two more deaths from the disease, according to the Shelby County Health Department. 

That brings the total to 8,845 reported cases and 178 reported deaths in Shelby County; 6,110 people are considered officially recovered.

The 157 new cases come from 1,482 tests, a positivity rate of 10.6%.

According to the state’s Hospital Resources Tracking System, as of 5 p.m. June 25, 217 people were hospitalized in Shelby County for coronavirus. 

And according to the HRTS, 84% of acute care and 83% of intensive care unit hospital beds are being used in Shelby County, overall. 

Acute and ICU beds are now in the “yellow,” according to metrics determined by the Memphis and Shelby County Joint COVID-19 Task Force. When bed occupation is above 80% it goes from “green” to “yellow.”

The Tennessee Department of Health releases new figures at 2 p.m. daily.

According to the agency’s last update, there were 38,034 reported cases, including 25,280 recoveries. There were also 567 deaths and 2,431 people ever hospitalized for the disease. 

In Tennessee, 727,268 coronavirus tests have been administered.
