Number of COVID-positive patients in area ICUs drops below 80

There were 199 COVID-positive patients in area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, according to the state’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System; 73 of those were in intensive care unit beds.
At that time, 89% of area ICU and 90% of area acute care beds were being used.
About 21% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (73) or suspected of having the virus (8). About 8% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (126) or suspected of having the virus (43).
And there were 46 area ICU and 247 area acute care beds available.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 105 new coronavirus cases and one new related death on Thursday, Sept. 10.
That brings the area’s reported total to 28,652 coronavirus cases, including 405 deaths and 26,675 inactive/recovered cases. The number of active cases is 1,572.
The 105 new cases come from 970 new tests, which gives the day a positivity rate of 10.8%. The overall positivity rate is 10.7%.
The Tennessee Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Wednesday, Sept. 9, the agency reported 166,587 coronavirus cases, including 1,931 deaths, 862 current hospitalizations and 149,698 inactive/recovered cases.
About 2.4 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
