Less invasive surgery smooths bumps for bunion sufferers
The true bunion, from a surgeon’s point of view, involves the first metatarsal, the bone leading to the big toe. As the bones shift, the metatarsal eventually pushes out on the inside of the foot, creating a bony bump that can be both painful and difficult to fit with a shoe. Nearly one-fourth of all adults will develop bunions. The new procedure requires four tiny incisions on the side of foot, which reduces the swelling and pain experienced with the older procedure.
