Number of COVID-positive patients in area ICUs rises

The number of the COVID-positive patients in area intensive care units — 86 — is the highest in a week and a half, according to state data.
There were nearly 200 COVID-patients overall in area hospitals, as of 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, per the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
According to the HRTS, 87% of area ICU and acute care beds were in use.
About 26% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (86) or suspected of having the virus (12). About 7% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (112) or suspected of having the virus (44).
And 57 area ICU and 320 area acute care beds were available.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 105 new coronavirus cases on Monday, Sept. 14, and six new related deaths.
The 105 new cases come from 805 tests, which gives the day a positivity rate of 13%.
Shelby County’s reported total is now 29,117 coronavirus cases, including 424 deaths and 27,294 inactive cases/recoveries.
The reported total of active cases is now 1,399.
The Tennessee Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus figures 2 p.m. daily.
As of Sunday, Sept. 13, the agency reported 171,824 coronavirus cases, including 2,078 deaths, 696 current hospitalizations and 155,865 inactive cases/recoveries.
More than 2.4 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
