Coronavirus: Five new deaths reported

After two days with no reported deaths, the Shelby County Health Department reported five new coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
The Health Department also reported 78 new coronavirus cases.
The 78 cases come from 1,876 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 4.2%.

In Shelby County, 453,434 tests have been administered; 277,581 individuals have been tested.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 31,540 cases, including 29,552 inactive cases/recoveries, 1,526 active cases and 462 deaths.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, there were 168 COVID-positive people in area hospital beds, per state data; 58 of those were in intensive care units.
According to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System, 82% of area ICU and 91% of area acute care beds were in use. Acute care utilization is in the “red,” since it is above 90%.
About 19% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (58) or suspected of having coronavirus (7). About 6% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (110) or suspected of having coronavirus (27).
And 75 area ICU and 230 area acute care beds were available.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Tuesday, Sept. 29, the agency reported 194,611 coronavirus cases, including 2,420 deaths, 795 current hospitalizations and 177,945 inactive cases/recoveries.
About 2.9 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
