Pat Mitchell-Worley on Memphis music, how music can empower youths and a band called Saliva
The executive director of Stax Music Academy and host of Beale Street Caravan joins Eric Barnes on The Sidebar
Eric Barnes
Eric Barnes is CEO of The Daily Memphian, host of Behind the Headlines on WKNO-TV, host of The Sidebar on WYXR 91.7, and the author of four novels.
It’s hard to accurately convey Pat Mitchell-Worley’s passion for music.
So I guess it’s good that we recorded the interview I did with her this week for The Sidebar, a new show on WYXR radio and a podcast on The Daily Memphian.
Pat is not just passionate about her love for music. It’s a passion for the opportunities music can bring to young people in Memphis. As the executive director of Stax Music Academy and the longtime host of Beale Street Caravan, she’s seen so many young people not just become musicians – though there have been many – but become professionals in the music industry.
Pat, who is also a board member of WYXR (as am I), also talks about the station, the importance of Beale Street Caravan, and her time as a music publicist.
She even talks about her love of heavy metal music and her time she worked with the local metal band, Saliva.
Side note: Saliva is possibly the greatest band name ever.
Take a listen.
