Coronavirus: Nearly 700 new cases reported

The Shelby County Health Department reported nearly 700 new coronavirus cases on Monday, Nov. 16. Less than a week ago, on Nov. 10, the agency also reported nearly 700 new cases, with 691.
In addition to 686 new COVID-positive results, the agency reported one new related death on Monday.
The 686 cases come from 6,396 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 10.7%.
In Shelby County, 341,637 people have been tested for coronavirus; 12% have received a positive result. And 604,222 coronavirus tests have been performed; 9% have returned a positive result. The latter has increased by one percentage point.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 42,806 cases, including 38,470 inactive cases (recoveries), 3,723 active cases and 613 deaths.
There were 361 COVID-positive people in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Sunday; 97 were in intensive care units, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
According to the HRTS, 88% of area ICU beds and area acute care beds were in use.
About 28% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (97) or suspected of having coronavirus (12). About 14% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (264) or suspected of having coronavirus (27).
And 50 area ICU and 294 area acute care beds were available.
The figures above are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee; Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.

As of Sunday, the agency reported 310,937 coronavirus cases, including 3,893 deaths, 1,785 current hospitalizations and 270,091 inactive cases (recoveries).
About 4.1 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
