Coronavirus: Nearly 450 hospitalized, and higher number expected for holidays
The Shelby County Health Department’s models now predict that more than 500 COVID-19 patients will be hospitalized in the area by Christmas Day.
As of 5 p.m. Saturday, there were 448 COVID-positive patients in area hospitals, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
Sunday hospital capacity information was unavailable and will be included in Tuesday’s Shelby County Health Department update.
According to the HRTS, 89% of area ICU beds and 87% of area acute care beds were in use on Saturday.
About 34% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (121) or suspected of having the virus (4). About 18% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (327) or suspected of having the virus (44).
And 44 area ICU beds and 300 area acute care beds were in use.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 283 new coronavirus cases and two new deaths on Monday, Nov. 30.
The 283 cases come from 3,118 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 9.1%.
In Shelby County, 369,488 people have been tested for coronavirus; about 13% have received positive results. And 666,845 coronavirus tests have been performed; about 9% have returned positive results. The numbers differ because some people have been tested multiple times.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 48,105 coronavirus cases, including 3,448 active cases, 43,996 inactive cases (recoveries) and 661 deaths.
Tennessee’s Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Sunday, the agency reported 366,518 coronavirus cases, including 4,554 deaths, 2,197 current hospitalizations and 325,993 are inactive cases (recoveries).
About 4.5 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
