Coronavirus: Nearly 600 new cases reported

Nearly 600 new coronavirus cases have been reported.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 588 new coronavirus cases and seven new deaths on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
The 588 new cases come from 5,588 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 10.5%.

Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 52,363 cases, including 48,188 inactive cases (recoveries), 3,459 active cases and 716 deaths.
There were 480 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds, as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
According to the HRTS, 92% of area intensive care unit beds and area acute care beds were in use.
About 37% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (145) or suspected of having coronavirus (4). About 18% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (335) or suspected of having coronavirus (59).
And 37 area ICU beds and 204 area acute care beds were available.
Tennessee’s Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus statistics at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Tuesday, the agency reported 414,749 total cases, including 5,109 deaths, 2,566 current hospitalizations and 371,163 inactive cases (recoveries). The Department of Health reported 100 new deaths since the prior’s day update.

About 4.7 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
