Coronavirus: Shelby County reports 695 cases

The Shelby County Health Department reported 695 new novel coronavirus cases in Shelby County on Sunday, Dec. 13.

The number of cases in the county since early March is now 54,929. Sunday’s new cases were from a reported 4,085 tests for a daily positivity rate of slightly more than 17%.

The Health Department also reported seven new deaths, and 738 people have died from coronavirus in Shelby County. An estimated 49,873 people have recovered and 4,318 cases in the county are active.

Hospital capacity has been tight recently. The most recent hospital data is from Thursday, Dec. 10, at 5 p.m., when 469 patients in the area hospitals had COVID. Of those, 405 were in intensive care units. 

As of Thursday 91% of acute care beds and 93% of ICU beds were occupied. There were 30 available ICU beds Thursday at 5 p.m.


FedEx expects vaccine shipments to start Sunday


The Tennessee Department of Health releases its update daily at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, it reported an additional 11,352 cases for a total of 454,305 since early March. An estimated 387,395 people have recovered.

The state also reported 62 new deaths and 5,462 Tennesseans have died from coronavirus.
