Welcome back to the Tigers Football Insider, where we bring you the latest news and analysis from The Daily Memphian’s college football reporters each week.
Spring practice is a little over a month away, with Ryan Silverfield planning to open camp on March 11.
The biggest storyline for fans will be the quarterback battle that could last into the fall. One of the potential contenders has taken himself out of the race and is switching positions.
Austin Peay transfer Jeremiah Oatsvall is moving from quarterback to wide receiver, according to his Twitter bio. Prior to entering the portal, Oatsvall said he would be open to switching positions.
Oatsvall starred at Austin Peay and Brentwood Academy in Nashville as a quarterback. Listed at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds Oatsvall is an impressive athlete and was known as a dual-threat signal caller.
With Oatsvall at receiver, the race looks like it’ll boil down to Arizona transfer Grant Gunnell, LSU transfer Peter Parrish, Keilon Brown and early enrollee Seth Henigan.
Oatsvall, who also listed himself as an athlete, could be a jack-of-all trades weapon for offensive coordinator Kevin Johns.
It’ll be intriguing to see the ways the offense will try to incorporate him with Calvin Austin III, Tahj Washington and Javon Ivory.
The redshirt junior has two years of eligibility remaining.
