Coronavirus: 42 new cases reported

The Shelby County Health Department reported 42 new coronavirus cases and zero new coronavirus-related deaths on Tuesday.
That’s the lowest case number since Feb. 19, when the agency also reported 42 cases.
Those 42 cases come from just 937 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 4.5%.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 88,153 cases, including 85,428 inactive cases (recoveries), 1,227 active cases and 1,498 deaths.
According to the latest Health Department data, 97,881 people in Shelby County have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose; 42,551 people have received both COVID-19 vaccine doses, meaning they are fully vaccinated.
And 140,432 total doses have been administered in Shelby County.
Shelby County is now in phase 1b of the state’s COVID-19 vaccination plan. This phase makes vaccination available to residents who are 65 years and older and includes teachers and childcare staff. People can check online or to call 901-222-SHOT (7468) to be notified when appointments are available.
There were 221 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Monday, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
According to the HRTS, 93% of area ICU and 91% of area acute care beds were in use.
About 21% of patients in area ICU beds were COVID-positive (76) or suspected of having the coronavirus (1). About 7% of patients in area acute care beds were either COVID-positive (145) or suspected of having the coronavirus (30).
And 28 area ICU and 213 area acute care beds were available.
Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Tuesday, March 2, Tennessee’s reported coronavirus total is 775,693 cases, including 11,421 deaths, 871 current hospitalizations and 750,755 inactive cases (recoveries).
About 6,789, 970 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
