Coronavirus: Shelby County reports fewer than 50 new cases

The Shelby County Health Department reported fewer than 50 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, March 9.

The agency reported 41 new coronavirus cases and zero new coronavirus-related deaths on Tuesday.

Those 41 cases come from 651 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 6.3%.

According to the latest Health Department data, 123,681 people in Shelby County have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose; 59,108 people have received both COVID-19 vaccine doses, meaning they are fully vaccinated.

And 182,789 total doses have been administered in Shelby County.

Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 88,949 cases, including 86,164 inactive cases (recoveries), 1,258 active cases and 1,527 deaths.

There were 168 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Monday, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.

According to the HRTS, 91% of area ICU and 87% of area acute care beds were in use.

About 18% of patients in area ICU beds were COVID-positive (58) or suspected of having the coronavirus (6). About 6% of patients in area acute care beds were either COVID-positive (110) or suspected of having the coronavirus (23).

And 35 area ICU and 309 area acute care beds were available.


Coronavirus: 13% of Shelby County gotten at least one vaccine dose


Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.

The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.

The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.


Coronavirus: 116 new cases, 4 new deaths


As of Monday, March 8, Tennessee’s reported coronavirus total is 783,904 cases, including 11,556 deaths, 722 current hospitalizations and 759,025 inactive cases (recoveries).

About 6,890,904 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
