Next time you take a Lyft, choosing to round your fare up to the nearest dollar could provide a free ride for families whose children are receiving treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

On-demand ridesharing company Lyft announced riders have donated more than $325,000 for St. Jude since the hospital began participating in Lyft’s Round Up & Donate feature in February 2018.

Round Up & Donate enables Lyft riders to round up their fare to the nearest dollar and automatically donate the difference to their charity of choice.

“Lyft's Round Up & Donate provides people an easy and convenient way to support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude," Richard Shadyac Jr., president and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude, said in a prepared statement. "Just a few cents can ultimately round up to a tremendous contribution, enabling us to continue with groundbreaking research and treatment all while keeping our founding promise that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.”

Launched May 1, 2017, Round Up & Donate has raised more than $10 million for various nonprofit organizations to date.

In addition to the $325,000 raised by Lyft riders, the ride share company is also making a $7,500 donation to St. Jude and providing up to $2,500 in Lyft credit for patient families to redeem through the month of December.

“Lyft riders are once again showing their commitment to making a difference in the lives of children and families across the country and around the world,” Sam Nadler, Lyft Tennessee general manager, said in a prepared statement. “We’re proud to support the amazing work St. Jude does through the generosity of Lyft’s drivers and passengers.”

To add St. Jude as their beneficiary, Lyft riders can visit “Settings” in the Lyft app and select the children’s research hospital. Once selected, Lyft will automatically round-up future fares to the nearest dollar and donate the difference.

To commemorate the launch of the partnership, country music star Brett Eldredge surprised a group of St. Jude patients by making them his personal guests at a concert earlier this year.

“I am so thankful to St. Jude for the opportunity to meet these incredible kids. The courage and zest for life that they have is something that will inspire me forever,” Eldredge said in a prepared statement. “Now everyone can help make an impact with Lyft’s Round Up & Donate. I hope that everyone can see how powerful and simple it is to help by donating. Let’s give these children the life that they deserve.”
