Coronavirus: No deaths, but 168 new COVID-19 cases
For the third consecutive day, the Shelby County Health Department reported at least 150 new coronavirus cases Saturday, April 24
The agency reported 168 additional cases from 2,800 tests, yielding a 6% positivity rate. No new deaths were reported Saturday.
Active cases in Shelby County stand at 1,730, an increase of 16 from the 1,714 reported Friday.
A total of 302,660 people are vaccinated in Shelby County. The number of people partially vaccinated is 103,832, while 198,828 people are fully vaccinated.
Overall, the Health Department has reported 94,584 total coronavirus cases and 1,610 deaths, classifying 91,244 cases as inactive/recovered.
More than 1.1 million COVID-19 tests have been performed in Shelby County, yielding a 9% positivity rate.
There were 165 COVID-19 patients in Memphis-area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, the latest data available, according to Tennessee’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
Hospital capacity for ICU beds is at 87% use, and acute care beds are at 92% occupancy. The number of area ICU beds available is 48 with 181 acute care beds open.
Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
Of the 165 COVID patients, 61 are in intensive care unit beds, with 104 in acute care beds.
Those who are COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus represent about 19% of ICU patients and 7% of acute care patients.
As of Friday, Tennessee’s coronavirus total is now 841,049, including 12,142 deaths, 848 current hospitalizations and 814,990 are inactive cases, according to the state Department of Health.
More than 7.5 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
