Shelby County averaging about 50 new coronavirus cases daily

There was an average of 46 new coronavirus cases reported each day between June 10-16, according to the Shelby County Health Department.
The agency also reported an average of 1,410 vaccinations per day over the past seven days.
The Health Department reported 78 new cases and no new deaths on Thursday, June 17. From June 10-16, the agency only reported one coronavirus death. The number of new cases reported from Sunday to today, June 17, ranges from 12 to 78.
The 78 cases reported on Thursday come from 1,889 new tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 4.1%.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 99,466 cases, including 97,427 inactive cases, 357 active cases and 1,682 deaths.
As of 5 p.m. June 9 — the latest data available — there were 95 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds.
According to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System, 93% of area ICU and area acute care beds were in use.
About 9% of patients in area ICU beds were COVID-positive (28) or suspected of having the coronavirus (1). About 4% of patients in area acute care beds were either COVID-positive (67) or suspected of having the coronavirus (13).
And 26 area ICU and 178 area acute care beds were available.
Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.
