County Commission drops one-cent hike in property tax rate
“I’m not trying to encourage the commission to go down a road,” said County Mayor Lee Harris, seen here in February. “If there are seven votes for $3.45, I recommend to all of you to move forward where there are the votes. Move this process in the ordinary course before June 30.” (Jim Weber/Daily Memphian file)
The absence of four county commissioners, including three of the “yes” votes for the $3.45 property tax rate set two weeks ago, was crucial to undoing the tax hike. However, the issue is likely not over.
