U of M not planning to offer refunds to fans not compliant with new FedExForum guidelines

There has been plenty of chatter and questions after FedExForum implemented a new vaccination policy.
The Daily Memphian reported Tuesday, Sept. 28, that fans wanting to attend games this fall will have to provide proof of having received at least one vaccination shot, and people 12 and older who are unvaccinated will have to provide a negative COVID-19 test result taken 72 hours in advance of a Tigers or Grizzlies game beginning Oct. 20.
As expected, fans were left wondering whether they could receive a refund for tickets already purchased.
The answer to that is no, with the University of Memphis saying there are no plans at this time to offer refunds to fans who will not comply with the policy.
Those with questions can contact the ticket office at 901-678-2331.
The Grizzlies have not indicated any ticket plans.
FedExForum, which officially announced the entry policy Wednesday, Sept. 29, said that fans may use their CLEAR Health Pass, an app that allows vaccination cards and test results to be uploaded on a smartphone.
In a statement, FedExForum noted that it will comply with the Shelby County Health Department’s mask mandate, which requires all people, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask inside public facilities.
“We polled our season ticket holders and found that a clear-cut supermajority of our MVPs are vaccinated and want to be in a vaccinated/tested environment for games,” Grizzlies president Jason Wexler said in a statement. “It was genuinely encouraging that the best interests of the health of our community so profoundly aligned with the preferred way for Grizzlies’ season ticket holders to enjoy games at FedExForum in the current environment.
“Those who are vaccinated overwhelmingly said they are willing to show proof of vaccination. Once the mask order is lifted, and with the vaccination/negative test policy already in place, fans can get back to a mask-less environment inside FedExForum with the confidence that everyone in attendance is either vaccinated or has shown proof of a negative test.”
Children ages 2-11 will need to be masked at FedExForum and will have to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test if they are sitting within 15 feet of the court for Grizzlies games.
The policies are expected to be in place through at least Nov. 19, with updates provided as needed.
The CLEAR Health Pass app can be downloaded by going to Clear.app.link/FedExForum on a mobile phone. Fans with uploaded proof of vaccination or test results will be able to use priority lines and get in the arena faster.
Those with physical vaccination cards or negative test results will go through a manual check.
