East Memphis neighbors win appeal regarding synagogue
Young Israel of Memphis utilizes the lot of a former residence that once stood at 524 Melody Lane, a residential street. A playground with a fire lane and fence has been built on the lot. Neighbors say the development violates original site plans submitted to the Office of Planning and Development. (Patrick Lantrip/Daily Memphian)
Although the site plan did not violate any rules or codes, Board of Adjustment members were sympathetic to neighbors’ concerns, noting the development was “wrong” and they themselves would not want to live next to the synagogue.
