William M. Rodgers III is vice president and director of the Institute for Economic Equity at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The Institute aims to promote a more equitable economy for households and communities in the Eighth Federal Reserve District, which includes western Tennessee.
Even with Memphis’ continued job growth, new headwinds emerged with the perhaps the most notable headwind today being high inflation, which has reached levels not seen for 40 years.
