Target kidnapping suspect charged
One of two suspects accused of kidnapping a woman and her baby at Target in the Wolfchase area Wednesday, Aug. 31, has been charged.
Will Hayes, 25, has been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping and one count of employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
The second suspect has not been identified.
“On September 6, 2022, at 9:56 am, Crump Station Task Force officers observed a gold Chevrolet Malibu Hatchback that was not displaying a license plate in the 1300 Block of Poplar Avenue,” police said.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was traveling north on North Claybrook Street. Officers placed Hayes into custody.
He was transported to Appling Farms GIB, police said. His car was towed to the city lot.
The alleged kidnapping occurred at the Target at 7989 U.S. 64 across the street from Wolfchase Galleria.
A woman, who had her 1-year-old child with her, was putting groceries in her car when two armed men approached them and forced them into their vehicle, police said. The suspects drove to a Regions bank at 7790 U.S. 64 and forced the victim to withdraw $800 from an ATM.
The woman and her baby were released unharmed.
The alleged kidnapping occurred two days before the abduction of schoolteacher, jogger and mother Eliza Fletcher, whose body was found Monday, Sept. 5.
