$1M grant covers mobile stroke unit until insurance reimbursement kicks in
Gerry Sandlin, a recovering stroke victim, returned to Memphis for the one-year anniversary of his stroke and recovery to thank physicians and the Mobile Stroke Unit team, who saved his life. The Vinemont, Alabama, resident suffered a stroke on a Delta flight bound for Atlanta. The plane landed at Memphis International Airport, the Mobile Stroke Unit was alerted and treated Sandlin onsite at the airport and then taken to Methodist University Hospital where the clot was successfully removed.
