County Commission will wait until January to appoint District 86 representative
The Shelby County Commission has opted to leave state House District 86 open until January, and then appoint the winner of the special primary election. Since only Democrats are in the race, the January winner will automatically be certified as the District 86 representative after the March election. (Patrick Lantrip/The Daily Memphian file)
The Shelby County Commission will appoint the winner of the Democratic primary election Jan. 24. Since there are no Republican or independent challengers in the special March election, the appointee will effectively be the Tennessee House District 86 representative.
