Southaven approves stricter standards for new hotels
Under a zoning ordinance amendment, new hotels will need to acquire a conditional use permit, submit feasibility market study
Southaven will use a conditional use permitting process and require applicants to submit the hotel’s Smith Travel Research chain scale rating, which classifies brands by different tiers based on average room rates. For example, Hilton Garden Inn is rated as “upscale” under the STR. (The Daily Memphian file)
If the proposed hotel isn’t under construction at the end of those two years, the permit will expire.
