City prepared for ‘uncharted territory’ prior to Nichols’ video release
Email records show the Memphis Fire Department was preparing for a “Level 4 Civil Disturbance” prior to the release of the video footage of Tyre Nichols’ traffic stop on Jan. 7, 2023. The protests were peaceful even as protesters shut down the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Danny Thomas Boulevard in Downtown Memphis. (Patrick Lantrip/The Daily Memphian file)
According to emails released to The Daily Memphian, the MFD prepped for an “all hands on deck” situation while preparing for potential civil unrest following the release of footage of Tyre Nichols’ traffic stop.
