Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reports an inmate death
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a potential inmate suicide death inside the Shelby County Division of Corrections as of Saturday, Oct. 14.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office’s X, formerly known as Twitter, account, deputy officials were called to the Division of Corrections at 1045 Mullins Station Road Thursday, Oct. 12, around 2:17 p.m. An inmate who was labeled as potentially suicidal was reportedly found hanged inside a cell.
The inmate was then transported by ambulance to Baptist Memphis Hospital in critical condition. The inmate died around 4 a.m. Saturday.
Shelby County District Attorney General Steve Mulroy has been contacted. The investigation is ongoing.
