Welcome back to the Tigers Football Insider, where we bring you the latest news and analysis from The Daily Memphian’s Frank Bonner II and Tim Buckley each week.
Memphis quarterback Seth Henigan is headed back home.
The Tigers (5-2, 2-1 AAC) will travel to Denton, Texas on Friday as they prepare to kick off against North Texas at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. Henigan, who graduated from Denton Ryan High School where his dad is the head football coach, said about 19 extra tickets were handed out for his close friends and family to attend the game.
“It’ll be cool to go back to Denton and get to play in front of some family members that have never seen me play in person,” Henigan said. “But it should be a big crowd. They’re a sneaky good team. Their record doesn’t show their ability and their talent, so we definitely have to prepare the right way.”
Some of Henigan’s friends are students at North Texas (3-4, 1-2) who will also be in the crowd. Former Denton Ryan running backs coach Patrick Cobbs will be on the opposing sidelines. He’s been the running backs coach at North Texas since 2019. Henigan’s current teammate Tauskie Dove is also a Denton Ryan product, who will likely bring even more Memphis fans to the game.
The Tigers will spend Friday night at the hotel and Henigan will wait until after the game to see his family and friends. He said it’ll be good to be back in Denton, but he isn’t planning on making any visits outside of catching up with the people who show up to the stadium.
It’s business first for Henigan.
“We’ll be locked in on the task at hand. I will be, for sure,” Henigan said. “I can do that after the season. I’ve just got to focus on winning the game and that’s the bottom line. That’s the only important thing on my mind.”
