Opinion: Protect our community by opposing the biomass campus and sawmill in North Memphis

Lauren Williams Batiste is community engagement chair for the Vollintine Evergreen Community Association, which includes more than 3,000 homes, businesses and institutions situated in a diverse, historic neighborhood located in Midtown and North Memphis.
The potential negative health consequences and disregard for community voices associated with this project demand national attention, as these unfounded “carbon management” projects are targeting Black, Latinx and Indigenous communities across the country.
