Topgolf-inspired pickleball facility coming to Southaven

The 16-acre planned development in Southaven known as Top of the ’Sipp will include a pickleball facility inspired by entertainment complexes like Topgolf.

“There’s a great demand for pickleball, and we saw the opportunity to meet the need in Southaven and really the Mid-South,” said Scott Gill, partner with project developer SMJ Enterprise. “There’s nothing like it here right now.”

Designated as the third phase of Top of the ’Sipp, the facility would be called Bangers Pickleball and, if approved by the city, could open as soon as fall 2025.

“Top of the ’Sipp chose the ideal location for their development,” Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite said. “Bringing pickleball, the hottest game on the planet right now, and their other recreational-style occupancies are perfect for our Snowden District.”

Site plans recently approved by the Southaven Planning Commission include 10 pickleball courts, four inside and six outside, two of which would be covered.

An upstairs patio would overlook the courts and include space for events like corporate outings and birthday parties.

The amusement attraction would also include its own restaurant and bar. A second bar would go outside.

“I discussed the vision of an entertainment district in Southaven a decade ago, and it’s exciting watching it all become reality,” Musselwhite said.

Located on the west side of Snowden Lane across from the Snowden Grove soccer fields, Top of the ’Sipp will bring around 211,000 square feet of office, retail and entertainment to Southaven’s growing Snowden District.

The development is in walking distance from Southaven’s much-celebrated Silo Square development.

Once Bangers is up and running, Gill said it will offer pickleball leagues, summer camps and tournaments catering to all skill levels, as well as lessons.

Membership will be offered and include benefits like advance reservations for courts and discounted court times.

“I go by the pickleball courts in Southaven all the time, and it’s a two- or three-hour wait to get on the court,” Gill said. “The demand is huge.”

If ultimately approved, Rickey Hall will be the owner of Bangers.

Renaissance Group is the architect of the project. Fisher Arnold is the civil engineer. Metro Construction is building the facility.

SMJ anticipates completing all three phases of the development project by 2026. Its office space will be confined to the north side of the site with three buildings at 16,500 square feet each.

The 11-acre parcel south of the office area will be dedicated to retail, entertainment and restaurant use, and a 2,200-square-foot stage will serve as an outdoor entertainment area. A courtyard will add outdoor seating.
