The number of days until opening day for Memphis football are starting to dwindle, and the Tigers announced themes for each home game Wednesday, July 17.
They also announced the Tiger Tailgate and “Release the Tigers” will return this upcoming season.
Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium will kick off the 2024 season against North Alabama Aug. 31 with a “901 Game.” The theme is meant to celebrate everything that helps create the unique culture in the city of Memphis.
The Tigers will honor the 1993 team that beat No. 23 Mississippi State and Ole Miss when they face Troy Sept. 7. Pro Football Hall of Famer Isaac Bruce was a member of that 1993 team.
The Sept. 28 game against Middle Tennessee will be kids’ day. Memphis will have festivities on Tiger Lane and inside the stadium, including inflatables and giveaways. Wrestling Day will be held, for the third consecutive year, Oct. 19 against North Texas. There will be wrestling matches on Tiger Lane prior to kickoff.
Memphis Homecoming will be Oct. 26 against Charlotte, and the Military Appreciation & Blackout game will be Nov. 8 against Rice. The Tigers are encouraging all fans to wear black on that day.
The themes are set and the season is right around the corner 🏈‼️

The final home game of the season is always reserved for Senior Day. The “Battle of the Bones” rivalry against UAB Nov. 16 will be the last regular season game played in Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium for several Memphis seniors.
The Tigers hope to have a bonus home game for the American Athletic Conference Championship if they end the regular season at the top of the conference standings. That could be a gateway game to representing the Group of Five schools in the first year of the 12-team College Football Playoff.
Last year’s 10-3 season featured a 4-2 home record. Ryan Silverfied is entering his fifth season as head coach and has a 20-6 record at home.
