Shannon Merritt has fond memories of the Cooper-Young coffee shop Java Cabana from the time he spent studying there as an English student. When he heard that the building housing the shop was up for sale, he and two partners pounced.

Early Monday, Aug. 12, Merritt, Harry Koniditsiotis and Blake Marcum closed on a deal to pay $525,000 for the complex at 2170 Young Ave. that houses Java Cabana, 901 Toys and the former Loudean’s clothing shop.
