The Tennessee Democratic Party has changed the leadership of the Shelby County Democratic Party for the second time in eight years, once again in a presidential election year.
The state party removed Lexie Carter as local party chairwoman Sept. 16 and put in place a set of four cochairs for the local party one month to the day before early voting begins in advance of the Nov. 5 Election Day.
The goal is to ramp up a more vigorous get-out-the-vote campaign in a county that is already a Democratic stronghold and at least show some indication Democrats are becoming more competitive statewide in what is a red, or majority Republican, state.
