Revitalizing Northside Square without pricing out current Klondike residents

By , Daily Memphian Updated: October 27, 2024 4:00 AM CT | Published: October 27, 2024 4:00 AM CT

What was once Northside High now has windows, something it didn’t have a lot of when it was designed and opened in the mid-1960s.

The windows are the first visible signs of the conversion within to Northside Square, a mixed-use development that is leased up commercially and preparing to begin construction of 42 affordable rental housing units.

Looking through the windows from rooms, with outlines of where chalkboards were once mounted and columns with colorful slices of murals still painted on one side, there are other signs of the larger work needed to bring back the surrounding Klondike residential subdivision in North Memphis.
