Buc-ee’s, the darling of road trip gas plazas and convenience stores, is stepping up its growth strategy with more locations and bigger stores — including the two recently announced in the Memphis area.

For years the company built about four stores a year. This year, it came out of the box with seven, a growth trajectory that shows no sign of slowing.

“I would say it’s about 20 to 25% more growth a year,” said Jeff Nadalo, legal counsel for the company known to travelers for its mascot — a grinning beaver in a bill cap — brisket and scrupulously clean restrooms.

“They are also bigger stores,” Nadalo said. “Our older stores were the smaller size.”

Founded in Texas in 1982, Buc-ee’s now has 50 stores across the Southeast, with an outlier in Colorado.
