Political Roundup: The new election-returns layout, Hagerty defends Gaetz

Shelby County Election Commission Chairman Mark Luttrell was among those disappointed by the 54.5% countywide voter turnout in the Nov. 5 elections.

“That means about half of the people who are eligible to vote are making decisions for all of us,” the former Shelby County mayor told The Daily Memphian. “We really, I think, worked hard to encourage people to vote.”

Luttrell is asking people their thoughts on what was behind the low turnout, which was a low watermark for presidential elections, the most popular of the election cycles, since at least 1968.
