Playoff chase: Tracking top Group of Five teams

Many believed the Group of Five representatives in the College Football Playoff would come from the Mountain West or the American Athletic Conferences, and it appears that will ring true.

No. 11 Boise State, No. 17 Tulane and No. 22 UNLV are the three Group of Five schools included in the latest CFP rankings, announced Tuesday night.

Army was the second-highest-ranked Group of Five school last week but fell out of the rankings after a 35-point loss to Notre Dame. The Black Knights could find its way back into the rankings if they end the regular season with a win against UTSA on Saturday and beat Tulane in the AAC Championship.

The top five highest-ranked champions are guaranteed a spot in the playoff. Boise State, if it wins its league, would be the highest-ranked Group of Five champion based on the current rankings.
