Another man escapes custody from Hernando courthouse
A DeSoto County man convicted Monday, Dec. 9, in Circuit Court on drug trafficking charges briefly escaped custody, officials say.
While out on bond, Stephen Graham Russell, Jr., was at the Hernando courthouse Monday morning for a plea and sentencing hearing. At the hearing, Russell was sentenced to 10 years in state prison, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision.
According to DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas E. Tuggle II, as officers escorted Russell to the transport vehicle from the courthouse, Russell claimed to be experiencing a medical emergency.
