Feagins-school board dispute may be more than two-way skirmish

The day after the Memphis-Shelby County Schools board’s special meeting Tuesday, Dec. 17, state Senator London Lamar (D-Memphis) offered a look “behind the scenes” of the conflict between some of the school board members and MSCS Superintendent Marie Feagins.
The Facebook post Wednesday was a defense of School Board Member Sable Otey who just took office on the board this past September and who favored ousting Feagins in the tense showdown at the board meeting.
Lamar’s post was an indication that other local elected officials don’t necessarily view this as a two-way conflict.
The board meeting ended with a 5-4 vote to delay a decision on the move by MSCS board chairwoman Joyce Dorse Coleman to fire Feagins on allegations of professional misconduct.
